Ready your jowls, fans. Here's some Diablo III info sure to make you moist. Listed is a short summary of the beta information, as well as some information of the game itself with a handful of what's sure to be controversial features. Enjoy
The Blacksmith
There seems to be 16 different types of crafting materials for the blacksmith (4 per difficulty). Other reagents include Page of Training, which are combined to a Book of Training. These books are what you need to level and rank up the artisan.
The Jeweler
Reagents for the Jeweler include the 14 tiers of gems times 6 different types, which can be combined (3x) to form the next tier. They can also craft gems, but the materials required to do so are unknown at this time. There seems to be 24 designs (recipes) for tiers 11-14, which include cuts for Radiant Round, Star, Flawless Star, and Radiant Star. They can also craft amulets and rings, which we assume would use crafting materials salvaged from gear (same as Blacksmithing reagents).
The Mystic
Reagents for the Mystic include all the different runes that drop (5 types with 7 ranks). They can be salvaged into rune dust and/or anima (speculated), which is then used to craft runes and/or used to enchant items. Here are the list of the 184 enchant forumals (recipes) that have been found so far. They can also create scrolls, elixirs, and potions, however the materials used are still unknown.
Will Crafting in Diablo 3 Take a Lot of Time?
Crafting in D3 doesn’t seem to take too much time sitting in front of the artisans. You don’t gain skill points by crafting items, you level them up by paying a gold/reagent fee (5 times per rank, 10 ranks total). The only thing related to farming I’ve seen are for the pages of training, which you need 5 of to create 1 book of training, which is then used to level the artisan. So to go from Artisan to Journeyman, you need 5 levels, which totals to 5 Tome of Training, 30 Common Scraps, and 2750 Gold. This scales higher and higher as you progress through the 10 ranks of your artisans. Remember that there are 5 levels between each rank too.
Gold Tip: All of the above reagents will be valuable enough to sell on the auction house especially the much rarer types from higher difficulties. Pay attention to any roadblocks you have while training your artisans and make note of which materials will be in high demand for others. Since crafting armor doesn’t skill you up, you can sell off unneeded materials for profit. Or craft desirable items if the market is flooded with materials and sell them.
